Competency area

Compliance & Risk Management

I draw on compliance and risk management knowledge when delivering technical services. It helps me connect agreed requirements for data, access and responsibilities with system configuration and maintenance.

Requirements in a technical context

Organisational and regulatory requirements affect permissions, backups and incident response. During technical work, I establish which requirements the client has identified and which systems they concern. Questions of interpretation need confirmation from the appropriate people in the organisation or its advisers.

How this knowledge supports technical work

  • It helps me establish who approves resource access and configuration changes.
  • It supports discussions about the effects of downtime or data loss and the priorities for technical work.
  • It helps me account for dependencies between organisational procedures and system settings.
  • It helps distinguish implementing a technical change from deciding whether to accept the remaining risk.

Engagement-specific records and agreements

Where the technical scope calls for it, I may record agreed settings, identified dependencies or matters left for the client to decide. This does not imply a fixed documentation package or an assessment of all the organisation’s obligations.

The limits of this competency area

I do not offer separate legal advice, certification or compliance assurance in this area. Knowledge of requirements supports my technical work but does not replace legal interpretation or an assessment appropriate to a particular organisation.

The certificates below document knowledge and training. They do not establish a client’s compliance, demonstrate a particular implementation or confer authority to provide legal advice.

Questions and answers

Does a written procedure confirm that a safeguard works?

No. The stated rules, system configuration and user behaviour are different elements. It is necessary to establish which has been checked and what the available information actually covers.

Who decides whether to accept a risk?

The organisation needs to identify the person responsible. I can explain technical dependencies and limitations within the service scope; doing so does not transfer the client’s management decisions to me.

Connecting requirements to technical work

Where organisational requirements affect system configuration, they should be included when agreeing the relevant technical service. The links below describe those services.

It also supports decisions about data use in AI in Business (AI Security).

Certificates document knowledge and training; they do not demonstrate a particular implementation or, on their own, establish the scope of services offered.
